Reaction Challenge: from controls to your first round

Read the aim of Reaction Challenge, then make your first move. Finish five valid responses. An early click does not count as a completed response; start that attempt again. Look at what changes after your first action. Check the rule that explains your first action. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Practice beyond the first move

Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your objective

Finish five valid responses. An early click does not count as a completed response; start that attempt again. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Keep the controls in easy reach.

The order of play

  1. Start a round and wait without clicking.
  2. When GO appears, click or tap the large target.
  3. Read your response time and start the next round.
  4. After five rounds, the game shows the mean time.

How your actions work

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Use the control method described here for this activity. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

Follow the example

A valid 250 ms response counts. Clicking during WAIT is too early and must be repeated. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Check the stated objective.

A useful caution

Browser scheduling, screen refresh and input hardware can affect the measurement. It is not a medical test. A different version of the game may use a different rule. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
